Friday Recap for February 7, 2025

Friday Recap for February 7, 2025

I'm taking a break from my series on the duties and operation of the county commission and will pick it up next week.

Kelly Jackson wrote an excellent article about the accusation that my campaign broke election finance rules.

Below are two calls to action that I think are important. I'm concerned about the growth in Williamson County. We have infrastructure issues that include our crowded roads, water, and sewer, as well as school capacity. We're over $1 billion in debt and we keep adding to it each year. I am not against growth per se, but I think we need to be more circumspect as we go forward. What is Williamson County going to look like in five years, in 10 years?

The Williamson County GOP will be holding its biannual reorganization on March 4th. I've been very happy with the current leadership and would like to see them continue.

💡
There is a very important meeting scheduled for Tuesday. BOMA will be voting on whether or not to go forward with a study to annex a non-contiguous Urban Growth Boundary (UBG). PUBLIC HEARING: Consideration Of Resolution 2024-102, A Resolution Initiating The Annexation Process And Draft Plan Of Services, For The Possible Annexation Of 493.87 Acres, Located Along The North And South Sides Of Murfreesboro Road, East Of North Chapel Road, And West Of Trinity Road WS 1/14/25. There are many concerns about this annexation. There will be opportunity for we the people to speak at this hearing. It will start at 7:00 pm in the auditorium in the County Building Complex at 1320 W. Main St. I encourage everyone to at least attend this meeting to see what is being proposed.

💡
On March 4th, the Williamson County GOP will be holding its biannual reorganization. The current board has done a great job for conservative republicans in Williamson County, and we want to keep it going. Several current board members are dropping off, but their replacements are top-notch conservatives. We need like-minded republicans to attend. Below is all the pertinent information: What: Williamson County GOP reorganization When: March 4, 2025 Where: Liberty Hall at the Factory. Time: 4:30 pm In order to vote, you must be bonafide, which means that you have to have voted in three of last four republican primaries. If you are not sure if you are bonafide, go ahead and pre-register. If you’re not bonafide, you will be notified. Go here to pre-register. For the slate of candidates that I support, go here

Williamson County School District

The policy Committee met on Monday Agenda Audio.

The Library Policy, item 4a on the agenda, is discussed starting at 2:05:23. This policy has gone through a number of changes in the last year. One important change is replacing the "decision Tree" with the "evaluation rubric", which I think was a great improvement. I highly recommend that you listen to the thoughtful discussion of the board members on the committee.

Next week

The monthly work session will be meeting on Thursday the 13th at 6:00pm at the Professional Development Center located at 1761 West Main Street, Franklin, Agenda Video (available at 6:00pm on the 13th and thereafter.

Williamson County Commission

The Budget Committee met on Monday for a relatively short meeting Video. If you watch the video, you will see that a portion of the meeting has been redacted. The reason is that sensitive information with regard to the Juvenile Center was discussed and it was thought best that it not be made public. I think this was the right thing to do.

Resolution 2-25-2, formerly 1-25-12 ( is in the packet for Monday's commission meeting below), which was not on the agenda nor in the packet sent to commissioners, was brought up, discussed and voted on. This resolution has already been through the tax study committee that voted 4-1 in favor and the budget committee that voted 3-1 in favor at their last meeting. This resolution will be on the agenda for Monday's commission meeting. It should be an interesting discussion.

The Highway Commission Agenda and the Solid Waste Board both met on Wednesday and I have no information other than the agenda above.

Next week

The full commission will be meeting on Monday at 6:00pm in the auditorium at the county building at 1320 W. Main.

The Planning Commission is meeting on Thursday at 5:30 pm in the Auditorium in the county building at 1320 W. Main. Agenda/Packet
