My Comment for the week
Tomorrow is the day that the Tennessee Republican Party State Executive Committee (SEC) is going to decide on the Williamson County Conservatives challenge to the March 4th reorganization convention.
A lot has been said and written about the convention and I have written about a number of the issues raised by both sides. Now it is up to the SEC to approve the results of the convention or call for new convention. I think the convention was well run and that the results should stand. We voted in a great slate of leaders and I have every confidence that they will represent true conservative values and continue to grow the party by doing the right things.
The meeting starts a 9:30 am in the Hilton Garden Inn at 1975 Providence Parkway, Mount Juliet. The agenda is here
This is an open meeting and anyone can attend
Special feature
Sheriff Hughes is featured in a program about first responders. It's a really good piece; the two Sheriff Hughes segments start at 7:19 and 22:00. It is great to see one of our own being highlighted in such a positive way. If you like it, please share it with friends and family.
- I have both the Williamson County Citizen and Truthwire News sites listed below and I highly recommend both if you want to get deeper into the current issues.

Election Commission
There were no meetings this week, but there is a follow-up from last week:
Here is the latest on the election-related sign ordinance the Williamson County Commission is working on with the Williamson County Election Commission.
- Williamson County Commissioner Drew Torres is trying to clean up an old sign ordinance regarding election signs with questions having been raised following the August 2024 and November 5th elections.
- The resolution is still in draft stage as Mr. Torres is working on specifics, and the enforcement mechanism of anything that is established.
- Officials are attempting to balance first amendment concerns vs. safety concerns.
- Chad Gray with the Williamson County Election Commission has confirmed that their election personnel will not be able to monitor or enforce the ordinance. Their focus has to be on managing the election.
- The ordinance/resolution will only affect county-owned properties where elections are held, such as Williamson County rec centers or county schools.
- So, right now, it sounds like the director of the rec center or principal of the school will monitor campaigners and their signs for any issues. To be determined.
- If the vote center is on private property such as a church, then a church official will monitor campaigners and their signs. Again, to be determined.
- The 100โ boundary will still be in force so no signs, tents, chairs, or people campaigning can be placed inside that boundary.
- Outside that boundary, tents can be erected, signs affixed to those tents and signs propped up in chairs. Volunteers can also hold signs. However, no signs can be staked into the ground.
- There may be a notification process established to allow a candidate to first โcureโ an issue with the ordinance before any fines or enforcement are implemented. Official process to be determined.
- The Williamson County Election Commission did endorse the draft ordinance at their April 3, 2025 meeting and has been working with Mr. Torres on the issue.
- Right now, there is no ETA for the presentation of this resolution.
Next Week
There are no meetings scheduled.
These are all public meetings and anyone can attend.
