I hope everyone is enjoying our wonderful, winter wonderland. I'm from the north country and miss the snow. I know, I know, I am not a well person, but hey, I jumped out of perfectly good airplanes.

I'm a day late on my Recap but I had a lot going on this week and I was brain dead last night but, as usual, there is a lot of important information to share.

💡
There is a very important meeting scheduled for Tuesday the 14th. It is the BOMA Work Session and the Mayes Creek Basin project is on the agenda. There are a number of issues with this including infastructer, schools, traffic and increased costs for the county. I encourage you all to check out the above link and come to the meeting. This is our county and we the people need to get informed and make our voices heard.

Enjoying Friday Recap? Take a minute now and forward it to 3 people.

Williamson County School District

There were no meetings this week. Next week the board will hold its monthly work Session on Thursday the 16th. Agenda video (click on live stream starting at 6:00 pm January 16th.)

School Board Work Sessions are held on the Thursday prior to the Board meeting at 6:00 PM in the Professional Development Center unless otherwise noted. The PD Center building is located at 1761 West Main Street, Franklin.

Williamson County Commission

The joint Budget and HR committees met on Monday. resolutions video. The reason this was a joint session was because of resolution 1-25-9 which is a request to hire nine new positions for the Sheriff's department. The HR committee adjourned right after the vote on resolution 1-25-9.

The Budget committee members present were: Chair Judy Herbert, Mayor Rogers Anderson, David O'Neal and May Smith.

The HR committee members present were: Chair Paul Webb, Betsy Hester, Gregg Lawrence, and Drew Torres.

The discussion of resolution 1-25-9 starts at 2:55 and ends at 51:05. I highly recommend that you watch it if you want to learn more about how decisions are made in county government. The resolution was amended by taking out the cost of the new vehicles for this fiscal year and moving it to 2025-26 so the total amended amount became $785,655.18 and passed unanimously for both committees.

All of the rest of the resolutions passed unanimously except 1-25-12 which passed 3-1 with Mayor Anderson voting no. Mayor Anderson left after the 1-25-12 vote.

On Tuesday, the Parks and Recreation committee met. Members present were: Chair Steve Smith, Ricky Jones, Jennifer Mason, Chris Richards and Bill Petty. They discussed and voted on the following resolutions: 1-25-4, 1-25-5, 1-25-6, and 1-25-15. You can find the resolutions in numerical order here.

The votes were: 1-25-4 4 yes and 1 no (Richards); 1-25-5 5 yes and 0 no; 1-25-6 5 yes and 0 no; 1-25-15 4 yes and 1 abstain (Richards)

For clarity on resolution 1-25-4, it is to renovate an existing facility that brings in revenue. The Parks and Recreation department rents this space out and all of the money received goes directly into the county's general funds. I asked how many months it would take to bring in $138,000 from this facility, and was told approximately 15 months. The Parks and Recreation department generally brings in a total of $12,000,000 or so each year and this year, as of December 31, 2024, they are ahead year over year by nearly $800,000.

On Wednesday, the Highway Commission met. Agenda. This is one of the frustrating issues with regards to communication from the county. I was not able to attend this meeting so I have no information about what was discussed or voted on. I will attempt to get more information next week.

On Thursday, the Planning Commission met. Agenda and packets video. This was a very short meeting, 24 minutes, and there is no sound until 10:50. It is worth a watch as they are approving several housing developments in the county.

Next week the full Commission meets on Monday at 6:00 pm in the auditorium in the county complex at 1320 W. Main St. Agenda/packets, resolutions in numerical order. Video starts at 6:00 pm on the 13th.

The Law Enforcement/Public Safety Committee is meeting at 5:30 pm in the executive conference room at the county complex at 1320 W. Main. There is not agenda information at this time.

Board of Mayor and Aldermen

The Budget and Finance met on Thursday Agenda Video . If you want to see how your money is being spent by the city, this is the place to go.

Next week there are several meetings and you can see all of them here. The two most important meetings are the BOMA Work Session and the BOMA Board Meeting both of which will be held on Tuesday the 14th. The Work Session is at 4:30 pm and the Board Meeting is at 7:00 pm both at City Hall.

💡
I encourage people to attend the Work Session at 4:30 pm. I want to bring your attention to a development proposal under review by the City of Franklin in the Mayes Creek Basin area (Trinity & North Chapel). Since this area falls within Franklin’s Urban Growth Boundary (UGB), it is eligible for annexation. Also, under consideration is a request to change the current zoning from Development Reserve to Village Green. Key issues being brought forth by members of the community include: infrastructure impacts and costs to Franklin residents; increased needs and costs for county services, including schools; environmental preservation; and traffic management. The italicized is taken directly from Mary Smith's latest news letter linked below.

As an added bonus, I am pleased to share Mary Smith's excellent news letter.

Williamson County Election Commission

There were no meetings this week and non are scheduled for next week.

If not me, who?

If not now, when?
